Brad Duncan invites you to Music for Gaza: a benefit in Detroit.
--------------------
"Music for Gaza" benefit is tomorrow night! (Saturday, 17th)
Friends,
I am very excited by the incredible response this event has received, proof that people are passionate about peace and justice in the Middle East. It was even listed as a "Critic's Pick" in the Metro Times. The benefit is Saturday night, so let's review the basics.
1) This benefit is for the Palestine Office, an active human rights group based in Dearborn. They do everything from educational outreach to organizing protests, including the successful recent demonstrations against the war in Gaza. http://www.palestineoffice.com
2) The benefit starts at 8pm and is an open house, so you and your guests can arrive at anytime throughout the evening. The band will play a set beginning around 9pm and another set well after 10pm. You can show up early or late, just don't miss this special band.
3) There will be basic beverages provided and Arabic food from Anita's Kitchen in Ferndale. Guests are also encouraged to bring drinks or snacks, although just bringing yourself or a friend will suffice.
4) Not only will there be plenty of chances to pitch in some money for the Palestine Office, but there will also be limited edition t-shirts available for a small donation. The shirts are based on the cartoons of Latuff, a brilliant political artist, and will go quickly.
5) The party is happening in the Corktown neighborhood, near the old Tiger Stadium. It is a residential neighborhood and their should be plenty of parking. Please call or respond for any help with directions.
That pretty much says it all. I look forward to seeing all of you tomorrow night, Saturday the 17. The people of Palestine need us, and they need the agitational efforts of groups like the Palestine Office. Some come out, bring your friends, and enjoy an evening of music and solidarity.
Yours for a just peace for all people,
Brad Duncan

-------------BAND LINE UP ANNOUNCED!----------------------
Music for Gaza: the band
Michael Carey (tenor sax) is one of Detroit’s most powerful musical voices. He leads the long-standing group The Raw Truth, plays in Odu Afrobeat Orchestra, and frequently collaborates with Faruq Z Bey and Northwoods Improvisors.
James Cornish (trumpet, trombone) has emerged as commanding improviser and composer on the Michigan creative music scene. He has initiated projects from group improvisation to political opera and regularly appears at Ann Arbor’s Kerrytown Concert House.
Marco Navatchcoff (multiple reeds) hardly needs an introduction to fans of adventurous Michigan music. Long celebrated as a daring multi-instrumentalist, Marco has played with everyone from Only A Mother to Immigrant Suns to Odo Afrobeat Orchestra.
Kurt Prisbe (drums) is a Detroit percussionist who has worked with many of the players in this special supergroup, from Baker’s Keyboard Lounge to the Bohemian National Home. His subtle playing is featured on the LP “Two Revolutions” by the Thollem McDonnas-led group Box Deserter.
Joel Peterson (bass), the jazz scene’s equivalent of a community organizer, can be seen playing avant-jazz, Afrobeat, classic country, or any strange combination therefore. He is a founding member of the Immigrant Suns, Odu Afrobeat Orchestra, and is a mainstay in the Faruq Z Bey Quartet.
