OFFICIAL TOWN HALL MEETING TO DEMAND PASSAGE OF SB 1306, WHICH WILL STOP ALL FORECLOSURES IN MICHIGAN FOR TWO YEARS

SATURDAY, JUNE 14, 2-4 PM, UAW Local 7

2600 CONNER AVENUE, DETROIT (between Mack Ave. and Jefferson Ave.)

At the Town Hall Meeting this Saturday, State Senator Hansen Clarke will take testimony from Detroiters on how foreclosures are destroying people’s lives and the entire community

State Senator Clarke recently introduced SB 1306, the 2-Year MORATORIUM bill. It will allow a homeowner facing foreclosure to go to court for an automatic stay to delay the sheriff’s sale for two years or extend the redemption period from six months to two years. The court will set a reasonable repayment plan for the two years based in part on the borrower’s income and ability to pay. The law would be in effect for three years, meaning that anyone in foreclosure at the time the law is enacted, or is placed in foreclosure during that three year period, could take advantage of the moratorium.

The Town Hall Meeting will also feature a free legal clinic for individuals to get advice on how to fighs their foreclosure or eviction.

The Town Hall meeting is sponsored by the Moratorium NOW! Coalition to Stop Foreclosures and Evictions
