Detroit -- About 120 city employees are protesting Mayor Dave Bing's first State of the City speech over his calls for a 10 percent wage cut and benefits concessions.
With chants of "no closings, no cuts, Detroit won't go to the back of the bus," the union members marched about a block away from the Max M. Fisher Music Center in advance of Bing's 7 p.m. speech.
It's been proven that these cuts are not going to solve the problems," said Henry Gaffney, president of the Amalgamated Transit Unit Local 26. "We are not going to continue to sit back and accept what he is going to do."
