Volunteers Needed-MLK Day March & Rally, Jan. 18, 2010, Noon, Detroit

To friends and supporters of Detroit MLK Day Rally & March,

First of all, the Detroit MLK Day Committee wishes everyone a happy and better New Year, with jobs or income, health care, housing and utilities for all.

The 2010 Detroit MLK Day March and Rally will take place on Monday, January 18, from noon to about 4:30 PM. Please see the flyer and details below.

In order to make this year's Detroit MLK Day March and Rally as successful as the MLK Day celebrations in previous years, we need volunteers to assist in various phases of the rally and march.

First, we need everyone's help to get the word out. Pass out leaflets and forward this email to your lists and social networks. A electronic version of the leaflet is attached. Hard copies are also available at the Central United Methodist Church on the first floor and at the Moratorium NOW! Coalition's office at 5920 Second Ave. Call the Moratorium NOW! office at 313-887-4344 first to arrange a time to pick up leaflets.

On Saturday, Jan. 16, a few volunteers will be needed to help with set-up at the church. The exact time has not yet been set, but we usually set up sometime around noon and are finished in a couple of hours. Please call Linda Syzsko at 313-702-5558 if you would like to help.

On the day of the rally, volunteers are needed

* Before the march to help with set-up in the sanctuary and on the second floor.
* During the rally in the church to serve as ushers.
* During the march as marshals.
* After the march to help with the cultural events on the second floor.
* At the conclusion of the day's activities to help with clean-up and teardown.

To volunteer for a task on the day of the rally and march, please call David Sole at 313-680-5508.

On behalf of the Detroit MLK Day Committee, I would like to thank you in advance for your support

Peace and Justice in the New Year,
Mike Shane

P.S.- If your group would like to have a literature table at the rally, please call Linda Syzsko, 313-702-5558. We are requesting a donation of $25 from groups that would like to have a literature table.
