May 19, Tues, 4-6 pm, TROY DAVIS VIGIL in HART PLAZA - PROTEST DEATH PENALTY, join the global day of action to oppose the execution of Troy Davis and stand against capital punishment. Mr. Davis was convicted of killing a Georgia police officer without any physical evidence. Since his trial 7 of 9 witnesses have recanted their coerced testimony, one of the remaining witnesses has been implicated as the actual murderer. Claiming procedural rules and time limits courts have denied appeals. And his stay expires on May 15 when another execution date will be sent. The tragic taser death of Robert Mitchell at the hands of the Warren Police Department on Good Friday, April 10th compels us to call for a Warren-Detroit citizen collective to address police misconduct and other issues critical to the area.
